Abu Dhabi has secured the rights to host Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2009 on Yas Island.

As motor sport is a huge part of the sporting culture of the Middle East, Abu Dhabi is delighted to have secured the right and privilege to host a Formula One Grand Prix from 2009 on behalf of all of the United Arab Emirates. The Grand Prix franchise has been awarded to Abu Dhabi for a renewable seven year term.

The circuit for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be built on Yas Island, a natural 2,550 hectare island located to the east of Abu Dhabi island. Along with a The World-Class FIA Sanctioned Racetrack , Yas Island will feature a Ferrari theme park, signature hotels, golf courses, a 300,000 square metre retail area and much, much more.

Scheduled to commence construction in two phases during 2007, Yas Island occupies a total land area of 2,500 hectares, of which 1,700 hectares will be claimed for development. The Island will feature attractions such as a world-class motor sports racetrack, signature hotels, the Ferrari theme park, water park, and the Abu Dhabi destination retail development of 300,000 sq m retail area, links and parkland golf courses, lagoon hotels, marinas, polo clubs, apartments, villas and numerous food & beverage outlets that will create a unique international tourist destination.

The Yas Island development is mangaged by Aldar. The company is a progressive, integrated property development company based in Abu Dhabi and is charged with developing Abu Dhabi's strategic sites.
