The record breaking, largest, concrete pour in the UAE, 22,000 m³, has been successfully completed by Unibeton Ready Mix, the leading concrete supplier for many of the regions landmark projects including Palm Island Jumeirah, the new Garhoud Bridge and RTA road interchange projects.

The milestone concrete pour - which is double the size of any previous pour in the region and the equivalent of filing 9 Olympic sized swimming pools - laid the basement of Al Attar Sky Spiral, a 49 level, residential tower in Al Sofouh, Dubai, commissioned by Mr. Ahamed Abd Al Rahim Al Attar, founder of the Al Attar Group and managed under the chairmanship of Mr. Mana Al Attar.

Demanding the highest levels of technical and logistical expertise the mammoth 35 hour pour, finished Saturday, 7 September, 2007 and leveraged the combined efforts of Unibeton's nine, strategically located concrete batching plants - with a nominal capacity to generate up to 1000 m³ of concrete per hour - more than 150 transit mixers and 15 mobile and 6 standby pumps.

Unibeton, the largest concrete supplier in the country with annual supply exceeding 3.000.000 m³ is a member of the construction experts Al Fara'a Group. Group Managing Director, Mr. J.R Gangaramani asserts that the business was able to deliver this regional record breaker because of its investment in research and development.

'The Group, of which Unibeton is a flagship, has developed over nearly three decades because of our innovative approach to providing commercially viable, integrated construction solutions for all of customers. We are firmly committed to delivering excellence through partnership across the region and to contributing to the exponential economic growth of the UAE, said Mr Gangaramani.'

The project offered many technical challenges according to Unibeton General Manager Engr. Mohammed Shedadeh, including maintaining the continuous supply of temperature controlled concrete.

'With ambient temperatures currently around 40ºC, we had to maintain the concrete at the specified 32ºC with the use of over 1,500 tonnes of ice, coupled with this were the stringent quality checks on the 10,000 tonnes of cement and 40,000 tonnes of aggregate, carried in 2,500 truck loads, that we needed to complete the work.

'We had a dedicated team of best in the business scientists, technicians, engineers and other skilled employees all with a commitment to quality and to testing the untested so I was always confident that we would deliver this landmark pour on time and with the highest quality results,' he added.

Unibeton was strategically supported by key partners during the work which required an extensive back-up operation, to manage aspects of health and safety, supply chain and welfare for the over 1,000 project workforce.

The Project Contractors for the development are The Arab Contractors, one of the leading organisations in the Middle East and Africa with a heritage and range of experience that extends over 50 years and the consultants are Gulf Engineering & Consultancy.
