According to Dr Carlos Costa, The Trade Commissioner of Portugal –“the boom in the Middle East construction industry set to continue for many years to come, we are confident that Portuguese building materials will play an increasingly important role in that development.

Traditionally, Portugal’s major export markets are France, Spain, Germany, UK, USA and Angola, but companies are now looking at the potential of the markets in the Middle East especially UAE. We aim to facilitate global access and interest in Portuguese products and services and BIG 5 show 2006 was a major success and we believe that this year will also prove to be an excellent opportunity to interact directly with prospective Portuguese business associates and will pave the way for beneficial business deals- he said”

The Portuguese business delegation in Big 5 2007 will count with some heavyweights in the industry in particular, ornamental stone like granite and limestone that complement the quality and variety of Portugal’s marble, which due to its beige hues, has become much sought after in the local market. Portugal delivers in high style with Moca Crème, Moleanos and Rosal, amongst other colours and types such as the famous Rosa Aurora. Today, top architects, renowned artists and creative designers from UAE and Gulf use Portuguese marble with different finishes.

The Portuguese production of natural stone includes both branches of the sector: extraction (blocks) as well as the transformation that produces the final product, which is used in flooring and cladding, wall facing, funeral stone, table tops, furniture etc.
