Creative young designers to have their work showcased at Index.

Talented young interior designers in the United Arab Emirates have been given the opportunity to break into the big time by Index, the largest interiors event of its kind in the Middle East and Asia, which takes place at Dubai International Exhibition Centre on 3-7 December 2008.

Index is hosting the winners of Al Habtoor Interiors' Young Designers Award on a specially designed stand that will feature a mock up of the winning competition entry.

Sponsored and organised by Al Habtoor Interiors, a pioneer in interior design solutions, the award is aimed at encouraging creative talent within UAE universities. Lina Sadek, Corporate Affairs Manager of Al Habtoor Interiors, added: “We take our corporate social responsibility very seriously and enjoy helping young students showcase their talent.”

Kim Willis, Index exhibition director, said: “This competition and pavilion provide a shop window for the creative talent in the region's design schools. It is the responsibility of everybody involved in the industry to encourage young home-grown talent by opening doors that may lead to that big break.”

First place in the awards went to a team from the American University of Sharjah who won a prize of AED15,000 for their design department; the fabrication of a section of their winning design at Index; and internship at Al Habtoor ISG.

Second place went to a team from Ajman University, who won a prize of AED10,000 for their design department. Third placed went to a team from from MAHE Manipal University with a AED5,000 prize for their design department. The awards and certificates will be presented to the students on 4 December 2008.
