DOMOTEX Middle East, the only dedicated carpets and floor coverings exhibition in the MENA region, has announced that demand for carpets and floor coverings will remain strong in the long term as reflected by the enthusiastic market response for the upcoming DOMOTEX Middle East 2009, which will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from May 17 to 19. DOMOTEX Middle East revealed that key markets in the Middle East such as Qatar, which according to an International Monetary Fund (IMF) report is again expected to have a strong macroeconomic performance this year, will help keep demand for carpets and floor coverings flowing despite the effects of the economic downturn.

DOMOTEX Middle East also cited the positive developments in the UAE, including a recent USD 20 billion bond program by Dubai that has drawn strong support from the Central Bank and the Federal Government, and is expected to help sustain the emirate's long-term development initiatives. DOMOTEX Middle East also noted a Proleads report revealing that up to USD 698 billion worth of construction projects remain on track for completion or are underway, ensuring steady demand for carpets and floor coverings in the UAE.

Angela Schaschen, Managing Director, Deutsche Messe Dubai Branch said: "While there has been a slowdown in the real estate industry, there remains a large number of construction projects that are still in operation all over the region, which ensures that demand for carpets and floor coverings will remain upbeat. This is particularly true with key markets such as Qatar continuing to deliver a robust economic performance and the UAE being able to provide proactive fiscal measures to counteract the effects of the economic downturn. The regional market situation is clearly manifested by a remarkably strong response from both exhibitors and visitors for the upcoming DOMOTEX Middle East 2009.”

DOMOTEX Middle East 2009 seeks to maintain the momentum generated by the previous year's edition, which saw a four per cent increase in exhibitors and a two per cent increase in visitor footfall. Among the key features of the 2008 event were Creative Flooring and the Designers Corner, which will be extended for the 2009 exhibition after they were much appreciated by both exhibitors and visitors last year

In addition, DOMOTEX Middle East 2009 will introduce for the first time the Association for Professional Interior Designers (APID) Flooring Seminar, which provides APID members and potential members with information about the role of flooring in interior design. Over 100 professional interior designers are expected to attend the seminar, where renowned speakers will be invited by APID to exchange ideas about interior design.

DOMOTEX Middle East 2009 will showcase a complete line of handmade and machine-made carpets; textile and resilient floor coverings; parquet and wooden flooring; laminates; sports arena flooring; fibres, yarns and textiles; cleaning and application technologies; ceramic tiles; and natural stone and marble floorings. The exhibition and trade fair attracts key industry players such as wholesalers and retailers of floor coverings, decision makers in the contracting business, planners, architects, interior designers, construction companies, project planners, floor fitters and other skilled workers from the sector.
