Germany produces around 80 million cubic meters of raw wood per year, which are processed and marked up to be used in the building and construction, furniture, woodcraft, and paper industries, according to latest industry figures.

With aims to further the growth of export volumes of German raw wood to the Middle East, German based companies have registered collectively to participate at the upcoming 'Dubai WoodShow 2010', the Middle East's only wood-focused exhibition of its kind, the ‘German Pavilion’ will be dedicated to the participating German companies. The event, which will run from April 13 to 15, 2010 at the Dubai Airport Expo, will witness a showcase of German-made wood products and innovative new technologies.

The GCC region is one of the leading destinations for German wood/wood products, with latest available statistics revealing the UAE as among its top buyers, with imports hitting EUR 61.3 million in 2007. It was followed by KSA (EUR 38.3 million), Qatar (EUR 7.7 million), Kuwait (EUR 6.7 million), Bahrain (EUR 2.8 million) and Oman (EUR 1.8 million). Wood and veneer producer Reholz AG and hardwood and softwood company Ante - Holz GmbH, along with other German participants, have identified the potential of expanding their client base across the region by staging a significant presence at the show for the past 3 year.

“The consistent participation of German companies at the ‘Dubai WoodShow’ reiterates the effectiveness of the event as a platform for growth within the global wood industry; this has also captured the attention of a major German wood association to visit Dubai to personally see the existing and future opportunities in the Middle East. We welcome our future partners and their representatives - Mr. Alois Geiger Chairman and Dr. Rudolf Luers CEO of Gesamtverband Deutscher Holzhandel e.V,” said Dawood Al Shezawi, Managing Director, Strategic Marketing & Exhibitions. “The German Pavilion is one of the pavilions that register the highest footfall in the show, which translates to tangible sales and partnerships with large-scale customers from across the globe. We are proud to welcome them once again to this year’s show.”

In addition to the international pavilions, ‘Dubai WoodShow 2010’ will also feature the first annual ‘Dubai WoodShow Forum’, a series of exclusive keynote sessions delivered by high profile experts, academics and top executives from the entire wood industry spectrum. Another new addition to the show is the ‘Dubai WoodShow Roundtable’, which is a dedicated platform for exclusive B2B business meetings among exhibitors, potential clients and future partners.

“Our commitment to the wood industry is thoroughly demonstrated by the continuous evolution of the ‘Dubai WoodShow’ to cater to the needs of industry players and stakeholders. The bigger floor space to be occupied by the national pavilions also underlines the steady growth we are witnessing through the years. We are very excited to open the fifth edition of the show and welcome all the participants and exhibitors to our biggest show yet,” concluded Al Shezawi.
