32 UAE government departments set to participate in WETEX 2014

A total of 32 federal and local government departments from the UAE will participate at the 16th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2014, which is organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

The Higher Organising Committee has allocated stands for government departments in 9 halls. The exhibition will be held from 14-16 April under the theme ‘At the forefront of sustainability’, under the directive of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and DEWA President, at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Managing Director and CEO of DEWA said that the participation of government bodies is one of the main elements of WETEX uniqueness in the region.

HE Al Tayer said: “Many government departments will highlight issues related to energy, water environment and sustainability. In addition, major private sector companies will use this platform to explore cooperation opportunities with government entities. He added that the strong participation from government departments in WETEX is clear evidence that the exhibition’s goals are in sync with the UAE strategy for green economy and initiatives.”

In addition to DEWA and the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, the government participants include names like Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) which is participating for the sixth time, as well as Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company (ADSSC), owned by ADWEA. Moreover, there are first time participants like Dubai Police, Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme and Society of Engineers - United Arab Emirates.

One of the distinguished participants in this edition is Masdar which will showcase sustainability solutions. A multi-faceted initiative dedicated to developing alternative energy technologies and solutions, Masdar promotes moving from an economy that is dependent on fossil fuels to a sustainable economy that is environment oriented.

The Federal Electricity & Water Authority (FEWA) is located in Hall 2 of WETEX 2014. Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) will be participating for the eighth year.
Ministry of Environment and Water will display on its stand in Hall 4 its latest solutions. The Ministry has previously displayed the first UAE soil map as a joint initiative between the Ministry and the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, with the support of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and through strategic partnerships at national and international levels. The focus of the ministry this year is on its services and initiatives as well as management of water resources, dams, environment and agricultural affairs and other related topics.

Among the most prominent government participants is UAE Ministry of Energy participating for the 10th year. The Ministry aims to discuss renewable and sustainable energy topics and promote these quality solutions of utilizing energy and diversifying its resources to supporting its trade and contributing the goal of a diversified economy.

The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) will display the latest green solutions. Moreover, a galaxy of environment projects will be showcased on Dubai Municipality stand in Hall 5.

The Emirates Global Aluminium, which was established through a joint agreement between Mubadala Development Company (Mubadala) and Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD) following the merger of Emirates Aluminium (EMAL) and Dubai Aluminium (DUBAL), will be participating. Zayed International Prize for the Environment will also be taking part in WETEX 2014.

The exhibition will also include a stand for Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for SME Development, one of the institutions of the Department of Economic Development in Dubai.

In 2012, oil and gas sectors were added to the overall sectors covered by WETEX. This step enabled more public and private companies to join the exhibition, such as Drydocks World, navigation and marine services provider for shipping, oil and gas and energy sectors.

WETEX will also have participation from Hamriyah Free Zone Sharjah, which was founded in 1995 with a total area is 24 km2 and contains a port with nautical depth of 14 meters.

WETEX will also gather many government bodies from all over the UAE, like Ajman Municipality & Planning Department in Hall 4, Dibba Fujairah Municipality in Hall 2, as well as Department Of Municipal Affairs - Al Ain City Municipality in Hall 2.

The Department of Planning and Development- Trakhees, Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation in Dubai participates in WETEX 2014 will continue its participation this year. While, Friends of Environment Society will promote its free membership offer.

The Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), which has expanded its efforts this year to include collaborations with DEWA, will organize a range of recreational activities for school and university students, one of which is the Green Week from April 14 to 20 this year.

Emirates Scientific Club will highlight proposals of the divisions of the Department of Electronics and Computer Science Department and the Department of Environmental Sciences and the Department of Aviation and the Department of Agriculture and the Photography Department and the Department of Astronomy.

One of the regular participant in WETEX is the Environment Centre for Arab Towns (ECAT), the institution of scientific research that covers various sectors relating to the natural and urban environment as well as sustainable development in the Arab world and internationally.

Another participant from Sharjah is Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPPA), which will shed light on environment preservation topics of and its natural resources.
