To support the burgeoning hospitality and tourism sectors in the region, Portacool, LLC is emphasizing the need for sustainable cooling technologies. With Dubai Expo 2020 expected to attract an estimated 25 million visitors to the UAE – boosting businesses in a variety of sectors – Portacool believes environmentally-friendly cooling solutions need to be considered to help hospitality sector businesses capitalize on spending during the summer months.

“According to experts, in the near future people will use more energy for cooling than heating. This shift should prompt communities to push for environmentally friendly cooling solutions – such as evaporative cooling,” said Thomas Morrison, Marketing Director, Portacool, LLC

Alternative Evaporative Cooling Solutions Encouraged as the Hospitality Market Continues to Grow

“With more hotels and leisure facilities being constructed around the world, regions can see energy consumption skyrocket. In the Middle East, where energy consumption for cooling is exacerbated by extreme weather conditions, those costs can rise even more,” said Morrison. “Over the years, however, we have seen more and more venues put their outdoor spaces to use even in the hottest months by adopting environment-friendly, low emission cooling systems, such as evaporative coolers. This trend is likely to continue in the Middle East with recent decisions from Dubai Municipality authorizing hotels to build restaurants on the rooftops.

“Both the tourism and hospitality markets continue to be a valuable source of revenue for the Middle East. Along with that, the ongoing development of these markets looks robust in the region. Portacool wants to be a part of that growth and ensure the most efficient and green cooling solutions, such as evaporative cooling, are implemented.”

The evaporative cooling market in the region continues to grow. The global evaporative cooling market was valued at 4.48 billion in 2015, and is forecasted to grow at a CAGR of 5.84% over the reporting period to reach 5.95 billion by the end of 2020.[1] This rise supports the recent uptake of sustainable evaporative cooling solutions, both regionally and globally.

Evaporative cooling will help upcoming hotels gain cooling benefits without having an adverse effect on the environment, and a minimal impact on the bottom line. These products allow hotels and venues to fully utilize outdoor spaces efficiently. Additionally, it is becoming imperative for the hospitality sector to adopt sustainable practices for their production and HVAC operations, to mitigate the risks of global warming and environmental pollution.

Evaporative cooling makes use of a natural process, namely the reduction of air temperature by the evaporation of water. Although evaporative cooling is an age-old process, new technological advances have positioned it as a viable alternative to conventional air conditioning. Evaporative cooling works best in open and outdoor areas where traditional air-conditioning is impractical and/or ineffective.

With upcoming global events and infrastructure building driving major projects in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Portacool, LLC, the Texas-based global leader in evaporative cooling solutions, predicts a rise in the demand for evaporative cooling solutions.
