Today Cybex International, a leading manufacturer of premium exercise equipment, is awarded two new patents for the Cybex Eagle Row and the Cybex Bravo All-In-One Machine. The prosecution of one of these patents resulted in a ruling which changed the precedent for how patents are viewed in certain areas. Cybex has now received over 90 patents since its inception, showcasing the company’s leadership position in the fitness space.

“Our passion for exercise science has allowed us to create equipment that is at the forefront of innovation,” said Ray Giannelli, Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Cybex. “These two patents represent our dedication to the development of state-of-the-art technology for our elite products, and the ruling by the court of appeals protects that intellectual property.”

Cybex Awarded Two Patents for Eagle Row and Bravo All-In-One Machines

The first patent was applied for in March of 2003 when the Cybex Eagle line of equipment was initially launched. After progressing through each level of the appeal process over the course of seven years, the highest United States Court of Appeals validated the inventiveness of the technology behind the Cybex Eagle Row on January 13, 2014. The Federal Circuit court ruled that the machine could only be assessed based on its intended form of use, while prior examinations had assessed it based on a theorized use of a prior chest press machine as a row machine. This ruling has set the precedent for future Cybex patents.

Following the Federal Circuit Court of Appeal’s decision, Cybex was awarded a second patent on January 29, 2014 for two separate revolutionary features – the Progressive Stabilization Pad and the Cable Width Adjustment – in the Bravo All-In-One design. The Patent Office’s own Trial and Appeal Board ruled that the Bravo All-In-One is the only machine on the market to allow users to incrementally modify the stabilization process or configure innumerable height and width cable configurations to enhance core body strength.

Cybex is thrilled to announce the positive decisions resulting from the highest level of the US Court system and is proud of its made-in-the-USA engineering that went into earning patents for both the Eagle Row and Bravo All-In-One machines.
