DEWA reviews CISCO advances in smart city

A high-level delegation from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) visited CISCO’s headquarters in Dubai. The delegation was led by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, with Dr. Amina Al Rustamani, CEO of TECOM Business Parks and Rabih Dabboussi, General Manager of CISCO UAE. The delegation from DEWA was introduced to CISCO’s latest developments in smart city technology. The visit is one of DEWA’s efforts to keeping up to date with all government initiatives in the Emirate, making Dubai unique in the digital world as well as among all other international smart cities, by adhering to the highest international practices.

The delegation took note of CISCO’s comprehensive list of ideas and solutions that support Dubai Government’s transition into a smart city, such as the City Infrastructural Management Solutions, that were adopted to achieve the successful development of Dubai Design District (D3).

The delegation also viewed models of other international smart cities and learned how their facilities could be controlled via the ‘CISCO Controller Wall,’ a new technology that makes use of ‘The Internet of Things’ to control smart city facilities.

“As part of our efforts to make Dubai one of the greatest countries in the world by 2021, while adhering to the UAE Vision 2021 and the Dubai Plan 2021’ to make the UAE government a world leader for excellence and innovation, capable of meeting the needs of the community, DEWA realises the importance of developing future smart cities that make use of world class infrastructure, to provide efficient and transparent government services around the clock, exceeding the expectation of the UAE’s citizens and residents, improving their quality of life in the country,” said Al Tayer

“We realise the importance of our role as the provider of electricity and water in the Emirate, and seek to continuously improve our services to meet the increasing needs of all Dubai’s residents,” added Al Tayer.

DEWA takes pride in providing fast, easy and integrated services, which are accessible through a variety of smart tools on a 24/7 basis. This reflects DEWA’s ongoing efforts to make use of high-end technology and applications to increase the efficiency of services, and achieve the happiness of customers, and stakeholders, enhancing Dubai’s international position,” Al Tayer stated.

DEWA adheres to an integrated approach that supports Dubai’s list of ongoing initiatives, by keeping up to date with the latest advances in technology.

“We always seek to discover new developments in smart city technology and build partnerships with other international and regional bodies to broaden our horizons and benefit from the innovative development of these advanced services, transforming Dubai into one of the greatest cities to live and work in, while making efficient use of the city’s resources,” concluded Moza Al Akraf, CIO of DEWA.
