Green buildings witnessed a slow take off in the GCC due to three main reasons: lack of legislation, absence of visible financial incentive and limited awareness of environmental issues.

To curb the influence of these factors and progress to a more sustainable future, regional governments and private sector stakeholders are embracing the challenge of implementing green buildings. Giant steps have been made in the field of green technologies, propelled mainly by government policies and initiatives that aim to check careless use of scarce natural resources, costly power and water generation.

Green projects in the GCC are developed with different practices, from one country to the next; however some fundamental principles remain applicable in each. These include efficient use of energy, water and materials. Nonetheless, the green industry is generating demand for innovative technology and services that can help save energy, reduce pollution, boost recycling and build eco-friendly businesses.
