Hansgrohe sets benchmark for UAE with EcoSmart technology that uses up to 60% less water

Hansgrohe SE, one of the leading manufacturers of bathroom fittings and showerheads, today pioneered the way for a more sustainable future of Abu Dhabi’s infrastructure at the inaugural Abu Dhabi Quality Forum (ADQF), which took place at Etihad Towers from 28 to 29 April.

As one of the industry pioneers in sustainability, environmental and climate protection Hansgrohe showcased innovative green technology and initiatives to government leaders, regulators and heads of industry during a workshop focussed on ‘Quality Standards for the Environment’ at ADQF.

The two day event, organised by the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), seeks to enhance Abu Dhabi’s quality infrastructure and position the Emirate as a leading quality and conformity hub. The initiative comes in pursuit of QCC’s objective to act as key contributors to achieving Abu Dhabi’s Economic Vision 2030, through attracting recognized industry players to share their knowledge.

Hansgrohe was invited among other regional and international industry experts to transfer knowledge, as well as discuss global best practices and trends for identifying solutions that will help in shaping a prosperous future for Abu Dhabi.

According to QCC, the Emirate uses a significant amount of water per year, leading QCC to develop plans to promote water saving fixtures to residents and businesses. Hansgrohe’s range of mixers and showerheads fitted with the EcoSmart technology consume up to 60% less water than conventional products without any loss of comfort and have recently been awarded the prestigious Abu Dhabi Trustmark for Environmental Performance to certify that they have been rigorously tested by QCC and meet UAE and international standards.

Lower hot water consumption also means a reduced energy requirement, resulting in lower CO2 emissions and lower costs. Hansgrohe mixers go beyond the minimum requirements set by Estidama to deliver 5 l/min, instead of the minimum 6 l/m and can also help developers to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building standards.

Sophisticated flow limitation, special spray jets and the mixing of water with air reduce water consumption down to either 6 or 9 l/min depending on the diameter of the shower, while offering lots of shower comfort and saving energy, as less water needs to be heated. This is an essential technology for the Middle East and in particular the UAE, which has one of the largest per capita ecological footprints in the world, along with Qatar and Kuwait, with water being extracted at 23 times its recharge rate.

During the workshop, Hansgrohe highlighted the need for sustainable technology to lower water consumption rates, and reduce costs by lowering overall energy requirements – a key factor for the future sustainability of the UAE.

His Excellency Hussain Salem Al Katheeri, Secretary General, QCC, said: “As a council of regulators and industry, QCC’s strategy is aligned with the objectives of Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030. These objectives require coordinated effort from all of us. By hosting a group of international experts and visionary leaders, ADQF is dedicated to improving Abu Dhabi’s quality infrastructure to a world-class level.”

Dirk Schilmoeller, Sales Director Middle East for Hansgrohe, said: “We are now definitely witnessing a genuine drive from homeowners and developers seeking to achieve increasingly higher levels of sustainability. Water is a precious resource and, as a manufacturer of mixers and showers, it is our passion to seek ground-breaking innovative solutions that improve the use of water and build a common agenda for quality in the UAE. We are honoured the QCC has invited us to be part of this integral event that showcases how consumers and the commercial sector can make the most of the water and future proof their home or business with an ecological approach to showering and hand washing.

“We have earned our reputation as an industry pioneer in international sustainability and environmental protection through our ground-breaking innovations. We hope that our participation in the forum will help transfer knowledge and encourage other UAE organisations to take the steps to towards greater sustainability to safeguard the future of the UAE.”

The Abu Dhabi Quality Forum brought together regional and international experts to exchange knowledge and put forward practical recommendations to overcome the challenges to quality in the UAE, whilst simultaneously promoting economic prosperity through these initiatives in line with the Government’s 2030 Vision. It hosted a range of plenary sessions, workshops and meetings with regulators and industry experts across a broad spectrum of industries from both the Government and private sector.
