iPhone app to support HVAC product replacements.

The Siemens Building Technologies Division has introduced a new iPhone app called "Old2New replacement guide". This software helps planners and installers with the replacement of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment by displaying successor products at the touch of a button.

According to estimates, approximately 2 million heating controllers, 15 million HVAC valves and 10 million other field devices from Siemens are currently in use and need to be replaced over the medium term. To facilitate this task for planners and installers, the Siemens Building Technologies Division has developed an iPhone app called Old2New replacement guide.

Old2New contains more than 1,700 HVAC products by Siemens, Landis&Gyr, Staefa Control Systems and Landis&Staefa. Users enter the product number of the installed device into the app and immediately receive information about the successor product, including product image, title and number. In addition, the app displays the order number, a link to the associated datasheet as well as product replacement information. If needed, the entire information package can be forwarded via e-mail.

To ensure that the app can be used in HVAC basements, most major features do not depend on Internet access. Access to datasheets and transmission of information via e-mail does require an Internet connection.

Old2New runs on iPhones with iOS 5.0 and higher. The German and English version is available now free of charge in the Apple App Store. Other languages are in development. The Old2New database used by this app can also be accessed on the Internet.

HVAC products are part of Siemens' Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal 2011, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about €30 billion, making Siemens one of the world's largest suppliers of ecofriendly technologies. In the same period, our products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by nearly 320 million tons, an amount equal to the total annual CO2 emissions of Berlin, Delhi, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo.
