With INDEX 2016 just being TWO WEEKS from its doors opening, the excitement is mounting. With so many new and innovative features such as the Trend Hub with Scarlet Opus, 2016 promises to be the biggest and best year yet.

Karim Rashid @ INDEX

What we they can’t wait for though, is to welcome their guest designer, Karim Rashid. Described by Time magazine as the “most famous industrial designer in all the Americas”, Egyptian born Karim is one of the most prolific designers of his generation, having worked across 40 countries and collaborated with some of the world’s biggest brands such as Armani, Audi and Samsung. He’s renown for his designs spanning luxury goods, furniture, lighting, surface design, brand identity and packaging and currently has over 3000 designs in production – we’re feeling really quite lucky to have him join us!

As part of the new Design Innovation Forum at INDEX 2016, the multi award-winning designer will share his thoughts on ‘Sensual Minimalism’ - a term used by Karim himself to describe his work, recognisable by its sensual curves and bright colours.

Karim says: “My agenda is to contribute objects in our physical landscape that inspire, engage, and encourage positive experiences. I define my work as Sensual Minimalism - where objects communicate, engage, and inspire, yet remain minimal.”

My work is a marriage of organic and pure geometry, of technology and materials, as a motivator of human engagement. The softer, friendly, organic forms communicate tactility and express a strong visual comfort and pleasure. In response to excess, market seduction, and lack of sustainability, I believe that every new object should replace three. Better objects edit the marketplace I believe design is democratic. Good design can also shift and change human behavior and create new social conditions.”

Tickets are priced at USD 150, which includes lunch, refreshments and networking opportunities. If you’re heading to the shows this year, this session is really not one to be missed.

As well as his session at the Design Innovation Forum, Karim will also be speaking at the popular INDEX Design Talks.

As well as Karim, this year’s show welcomes many new exhibitors, including Stressless – creators of furniture whose form is surpassed only by its function; Artak Design – specialists in ready-to-assemble office furniture and Mobica Interior & Office Solutions – leading the way for internal and external buildings' systems solutions, plus many more!
