AMF Thermatex® acoustic ceilings from Knauf AMF are installed in one of the country’s first state of the art training facilities designed to resemble a working A&E hospital for trainee nurses and paramedics at the University of Sunderland.
A former 1990s office building has undergone a £3.5 million transformation to become a modern facility with two mock wards, assessment suites, a mock Patient Transfer Suite and an industry-standard Isolation Room to give students experience of working with medical equipment that is as close to the real thing as possible.
Knauf AMF ceilings are successfully installed in several new buildings at the University. This was one of the reasons FaulknerBrowns Architects decided to specify Knauf AMF for the new addition to the University’s Sciences Complex. They were also impressed with the level of service provided by Knauf AMF. “We have specified Knauf AMF ceilings for many different projects and we’re always pleased with the results. For the circulation areas, the smooth, white, elegant appearance of Thermatex® Fine Stratos helps create a light, airy, open feel, thanks to its high light reflectance (85%) and low air permeability. The surface resists dust and dirt which is ideal for clean. Its bright appearance combined with the ceiling’s high light reflectance reduces the level of artificial lighting required.
Thermatex® Fine Stratos offers excellent acoustic control and helps improve privacy for patients by ensuring unwanted noise does not travel from the external hallways to the wards. Thermatex® Aquatec is ideal for washroom and wet areas. It offers humidity resistance of 100%RH which means the tiles retain their shape even in humid areas with temperatures of up to 40°c. In addition, it offers high sound absorption and its surface is easy to clean.
