A state of the art veterinary clinic has opened in Stockton on Tees specialising in spinal and soft tissue surgery. Architect practice Jane Darbyshire & David Kendall (JDDK) were appointed to design the new building and they chose Knauf AMF Ceilings to provide aesthetic solutions and acoustic control.

The waiting room is fitted with wooden flooring and furniture to provide a warm, welcoming feel. Oak Varioline ceiling tiles were installed with a black shadow line grid. Associate Architect Matt Holmes explains how they complement the interior design. “Varioline gave us the timber look we were after with the advantage of improving the acoustics (reducing animal noise) and the black grid gave the waiting room a strong sense of identity.”

Varioline is a modular ceiling tile available in a choice of different wood patterns in popular colours: Oak, Ash, Larch, Birch and Cherry. Varioline is a demountable ceiling and can be fitted with either exposed or concealed grid systems. The ceiling offers excellent sound absorption and is suitable for areas with high levels of humidity.

To provide additional privacy for pet owners in the waiting room, two Thermatex Sonic Arc rafts in rectangular convex and concave shapes hang together above the receptionist’s desk. Matt Holmes explains why the rafts were required: “the rafts improve audio confidentiality and provide a focal point and sense of location for this interface area of the room.”

Thermatex Sonic rafts, available in circular, square and rectangular shapes and five different colours, are an attractive and elegant way to combine design and acoustic control in areas such as foyers, reception areas, restaurants and modern office environments. The rafts have a highly absorbent acoustic fleece around the surface that offers Class A sound absorption. The raft is fixed to the ceiling using discreet wires, giving the impression that the raft is floating in the air. The suspension system is fully adjustable to allow precise positioning.

Thermatex Aquatec tiles were chosen for the surgery rooms and installed using a simple to work with lay-in grid which provide an impressive finish. Matt explains: “Aquatec tiles in a lay-in grid were the obvious solution for areas that required easy cleaning.”
Thermatex Aquatec ceilings are ideally suited for wet areas and areas with strict hygiene requirements. Aquatec tiles have moisture resistance of up to 100% RH which means that even with permanent high humidity and temperatures between 0 and 40˚C, the tiles do not deteriorate. Aquatec provides a comfortable acoustic environment thanks to its excellent sound absorption.

Knauf AMF Ceilings have a range of products that are manufactured to suit specialist environments. The team at Knauf AMF are keen to use their expertise and technical knowledge to help create durable ceilings that meet the needs of the building and its occupants.
