A special seminar focusing on the various possibilities to be gained from building with wood, is set to take place on the second day (April 10, 2013) of this year’s edition of the ‘Dubai International Wood & Wood Machinery Show’ (Dubai WoodShow), the regional landmark event for wood trade and investment, which will run from April 9 to April 11, 2013 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC).
The daylong event will take place at the Fujairah A conference area of the Dubai World Trade Centre and will focus on four main topics—wood as a building material in the GCC; wood as a design component of architectural projects; the current state of wood use in the GCC and timber legality. The seminar falls in line with the industry’s current move to encourage the use of more wood with green and sustainable building and construction practices.
According to ‘Dubai WoodShow’ organizers, the seminar looks towards exploring and promoting wood solutions across the design and construction sectors of the GCC. The first half of the event, which runs from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM, will be a seminar for trades, while the second half, which runs from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, will be a seminar for architects and engineers. One of the key focal points of the seminar involves the discussions on timber legality and the importance of certification for timber-producing companies exporting to Europe and benefits and challenges of this mandatory certification.
“This seminar is just one of the many events and activities that we are organizing for the eighth edition of ‘Dubai WoodShow.’ Our goal here is to involve more players from the construction industry and their related sectors—encouraging the use of wood as both an essential building and decorative material,” said, Dawood Al Shezawi, Chairman, WoodShow Organizing Committee. “Additionally, the seminar also focuses on the significance of purchasing and using fully-certified timber; thereby ensuring that the wood products traded are from a known source, minimizing the risk of buying illegal timber.”
During the event, architects, engineers, developers, contractors and investors are expected to discuss and share their views on the use of wood in the GCC while at the same time look at some UAE projects that have already incorporated wood solutions in their building activities. The seminar will feature a panel of industry experts who have been invited to speak on timely topics and issues in today’s wood industry.
