Two of the leading engineering services firms, Cansult Limited and Maunsell, will merge to create one of the largest consulting firms in the Middle East, to be known as Cansult Maunsell.

The merger will form the first Middle East based operating company of global AECOM, which now has seventeen operating companies world-wide. AECOM is ranked the world's number one pure design firm with 28,000 employees across five continents and annual revenue of US$3.4 billion.

AECOM Group Chief Executive, Nigel Robinson, said the new Middle East operating company will generate revenues in excess of US$100 million, with more than 1,500 employees.

"This initiative reflects AECOM's commitment to the strong economic growth and major construction opportunities in the region and brings together two companies with extremely talented people and powerful, market-leading brands. The formation of AECOM's first Middle East based operating company reflects the importance that we place on the Gulf States and our readiness to invest in their fast growing 21st century cities."

"This is an important milestone for Maunsell, and is a strong reflection of the reputation that Maunsell's Regional Chief Executive, Walid Mahmoud, has helped to build."

Dr Mahmoud has been appointed Senior Vice President of Cansult Maunsell, which will be headed by existing Cansult President and Chief Executive Officer, Jim Metcalfe. Cansult Senior Vice Presidents, Lorne Proudlock and David Stephen, will also be Senior Vice Presidents of Cansult Maunsell.

"We are delighted to become part of AECOM,' Mr Metcalfe said. Aligning Cansult's strong presence in the Arabian Gulf marketplace with Maunsell and AECOM, and leveraging AECOM's global resources, broad professional services, and program management expertise brings significant benefits to our clients. The new operating company will draw on the strengths of both established companies to better service clients and capitalize on the exceptional growth and work opportunities in the region."

"Cansult Maunsell will be one of the largest firms in its market sector and already boasts a joint project portfolio that includes many of the major projects in the region," Mr Metcalfe said.
