The second edition of CONMEX, which is the Middle East's largest display of construction machinery, equipment, vehicles, attachments and spares, will be held at Expo Centre Sharjah from 5-8 November 2007.

The four-day event will feature the complete range of construction plants, machinery and equipment, earth moving and road construction machinery, construction and commercial vehicles, lifting and conveying equipment, plant and machinery for asphalt, concrete, cement and stone, tools and special systems, formwork and scaffolding, construction site facilities, attachments, spare parts and accessories, communication and navigation equipment, safety equipment, and other related products and services.

This year's CONMEX occupying a total exhibition area of 31,000 sq. m. including 15,000 sqm of outdoor space will host more than 280 brands from 23 countries including UK, UAE, Australia, China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan (ROC), Italy, Germany, Russia, Slovenia, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, USA, Spain, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Romania, Belgium, Ireland and Iran. Besides individual participation, the second edition of CONMEX will also be hosting country pavilions from China, Romania, India, and Italy.

"CONMEX had received an overwhelming response from the region's construction sector in the debut edition itself," said Mr. Fasahat Ali Khan, Advisor to Chairman and Board of Directors of Expo Centre Sharjah.

Second edition of CONMEX to be held at Expo Centre Sharjah on 5-8 November.

"The growth with respect to the number of exhibitors and occupied exhibition space in the second edition is an indication of the event's success in establishing itself as a highly focused sourcing platform for the region's booming construction industry," he added.

Mr. Fasahat Ali Khan further said: "The success that CONMEX has achieved within an extremely brief time span may be largely attributed to Expo Centre Sharjah's decades of experience in hosting similar focused trade events."

The coming edition of CONMEX, given its highly unique and focused exhibit profile, will attract key personnel and decision makers from across the regional construction industry including contracting companies, traders, distributors, stockists of construction machinery and equipment, service providers including transport companies, consultants, renting and leasing agencies, and public administration.

Besides being the region's most comprehensive sourcing platform for the complete range of construction machinery, plant, equipment, vehicles, and accessories, the 2007 edition of CONMEX will once again prove to be an ideal networking platform for the region's rapidly expanding construction sector. Other than facilitating meetings and interactions between visitors that will include top-level personnel from the Middle East construction sector, CONMEX will provide ample opportunities for serious dialogue with senior representatives of the exhibiting companies. In other words, visitors to CONMEX can expect to not only explore business opportunities and finalize deals but also get a clear picture of the technological breakthroughs taking place in the field globally.

"The Middle East construction sector has been experiencing unprecedented expansion in the recent past," said Mr. Saif Al Midfa, Director General, Expo Centre Sharjah.

"With economies booming across the region, there are no signs of any let up in the region's construction frenzy. In fact, the pace of the growth in the sector is expected to further increase in the immediate future thereby translating in to a higher demand for construction plants, machinery, equipment, and vehicles, in the region," he added.

It is estimated that currently, over US$ 1 trillion worth of projects have already been planned or are under way in the GCC region. The UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain are expected to spend a further US$ 150 billion on infrastructure over the next three years.

In other parts of the Middle East, Iran and Iraq have several high value construction projects with the total worth being US$ 97 billion and US$ 27 billion respectively.

The annual market demand just for used construction machinery and equipment in the Middle East exceeds US$ 1.4 billion.

"CONMEX had proved its capability in meeting the demanding requirements of the region's rapidly moving construction industry in the first edition held last year. Owing to the sector's astronomical growth as well as the fact that this year's CONMEX will feature more brands and a bigger exhibit profile, it is our expectation that the visitor turnout at the event will significantly increase over the previous edition," said Mr. Saif Al Midfa.

The debut edition of CONMEX, held from 25-28 November 2006, hosted 250 brands and companies from 21 countries and attracted more than 6,280 trade visitors from across the region.

The focused exhibit profile and the numerous networking opportunities however are not the only reasons for expecting large numbers of trade visitors at CONMEX 2007.

The live demonstration of tower cranes, forklifts, earthmovers, concrete batching plants, and other light and medium range machinery, equipment, and vehicles, in the display area outside Expo Centre Sharjah, will be of equal interest to everyone associated with the construction industry.

Another major highlight of this year's CONMEX will be the product launches on the sidelines. More than 40 product launches have been planned at the event including special launches for the quarry, railway, and the construction-engineering sector.

CONMEX is an initiative of Expo Centre Sharjah with the support of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
