Soaring demand across the Middle East continues to strengthen the importance of The Big 5 exhibition to the regional construction industry, and this year's show at Dubai International Exhibition Centre from 25-29 November will be the largest ever showcase of the latest products and services for the building and construction industries, including air conditioning and refrigeration, water technology and the environment, marble, stone and ceramics. The exhibition will also feature a broad programme of free industry seminars.

As the pace of construction continues to gather even more speed, the market for plant, machinery, vehicles and equipment is also growing massively, with industry estimates forecasting an increase of up to 20% over the next five years as the region realises its ambitious programme of projects and developments.

Multi Billion Dollar demand for construction machinery leads to launch of The Big 5 PMV Expo.

"Over 2,100 existing and planned projects, valued at US$1.2 trillion, are already underway in the GCC, and investment will rise even further as the countries of the Middle East continue with their essential infrastructure development and expansion plans," said Bernard Walsh, Managing Director of dmg world media Dubai, organisers of The Big 5. "This has seen the region become the world's largest market for plant, construction vehicles, machinery and equipment - having recognised this, we decided that a dedicated exhibition for this sector of the market was essential, hence the creation of The Big 5 PMV exhibition, organised in conjunction with the Streamline Marketing Group."

Running on the same dates as The Big 5, and linked via a free shuttle bus service, The Big 5 PMV will be staged at Airport Expo Dubai - as part of the Middle East's most influential construction and contracting event, it will provide the ideal platform for plant, machinery, construction vehicles and equipment suppliers to meet face to face with key buyers from across the region and overseas.

Covering a minimum of 10,000 sqm of exhibition space in its first year, the Big 5 PMV will feature an impressive international exhibitor line up that includes Al Bahar (Caterpillar), Terex Equipment Middle East (Genie Industries Tele handlers), Imer Group as well as other big name suppliers and service providers from the global construction sector.

"The combination of these two exhibitions delivers total coverage of all aspects of the construction industry," added Walsh. "The fact that 24% of the world's 125,000 construction cranes are currently in use in the region clearly demonstrates the demand - we received strong feedback from our Big 5 exhibitors and visitors and there was a clear and defined need for an area solely dedicated to heavy equipment and vehicles. We're delighted that we are now able to satisfy this important market segment."

In 2005, according to Construction World magazine, the UAE's market for heavy construction machinery stood at US$190 million, road construction machinery at US$176 million and earth moving machinery at US$150 million. Growth of 15-20% is forecast over the next five years as developers invest in the extra machinery and equipment that is essential to build airports, ports, mega resorts, theme parks, residential and commercial cities, and huge man-made islands.

"We have launched this new event as part of the Big 5 in direct response to industry demand," said Nick Webb, Director of Streamline Marketing Group. "A dedicated arena for buyers to experience the latest innovations first-hand, the Big 5 PMV will allow suppliers ample indoor and outdoor exhibition space to showcase their products and services to key construction industry professionals, engineers, consultants and contractors."

The Big 5 PMV has the support of key international organisations including Comamoter (the Italian Earthmoving Machinery Association), UBIFRANCE (French Foreign Trade Council) and the UK's Construction Equipment Association. It will also feature a series of seminars and interactive workshops providing trade professionals with an educational and informative platform to share best practice, learn about the latest developments and discuss solutions to regional issues. Sessions will cover Health & Safety, Specialist Construction Equipment and Techniques as well as Environmental issues. The seminars are free of charge and available on a first come first served basis.

"We're looking forward to highly successful shows this year," concluded Walsh. "Our overriding objective has always been to provide the best ever platform for the regional industry - the continued expansion of The Big 5 and the creation of The Big 5 PMV clearly demonstrates our commitment to look at additions and enhancements that will achieve this."
