The Middle East construction boom shows no sign of slowing, with existing and planned projects across the region currently valued at over US$1 trillion, an estimated US$656 billion of this in the UAE, the highest in the GCC.

All this activity has turned the region into the world's biggest market for plant, construction vehicles, machinery and equipment, and growth of 15-20 per cent is forecast over the next five years as more new airports, ports, mega resorts, theme parks, residential and commercial cities, and huge man-made islands take shape.

Next week, over 200 key manufacturers and suppliers from around the world will descend on Dubai to exploit a new opportunity to capitalise on the boom.

Taking place at the Airport Expo Dubai from 25-29 November as part of the Middle East’s most influential construction and contracting event, the Big 5 PMV will provide the ideal platform for plant, machinery, construction vehicles and equipment suppliers to meet face to face with key buyers from across the region and overseas.

This specialist exhibition, organised in partnership with and on behalf of dmg world media by Streamline Marketing Group, has been launched in response to phenomenal growth in the Middle East construction industry and the need for a dedicated event for manufacturers and suppliers of construction equipment.

While the Big 5 exhibition continues at Dubai International Exhibition Centre for a 28th year , the Big 5 PMV debuts at Airport Expo Dubai where suppliers will make use of generous indoor and outdoor exhibition space to showcase their products and services to key construction industry professionals, engineers, consultants and contractors.

Because industry buyers will be keen to visit both exhibition sites, a complimentary shuttle service will be in operation between the two venues throughout the five days.

At an official press conference today, Bernard Walsh, Managing Director of dmg World Media, said: “The Big 5 is a major event covering every aspect of construction. However, the missing sector in the past has been Plant, Machinery and Vehicles because we previously did not have enough space or facility for the cranes. It is really important that we have this sector represented at such an industry-led exhibition.”

“The success of both Big 5 and the dedicated PMV exhibition reflects the strong demand that is being created by the ongoing expansion of the construction and development sectors. Industry research shows that, as of August 2007, the value of projects in the GCC region has reached US$1 trillion, creating a major opportunity for focused exhibitions like these. The organisers understand the needs of this dynamic industry and Dubai offers the ideal platform to further develop business on a regional and international scale,” said Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General, Dubai World Trade Centre.

Louisa Theobald, Group Exhibitions Director of Streamline Marketing Group, said: “We’re delighted with the response that the exhibition has generated in its first year. More than 200 local and international exhibitors will attend and we’re expecting 10,000 visitors. This is an excellent start and we’re confident the exhibition will go from strength to strength in future years as the regional construction boom continues. It is set to rival other international events within this sector.”

Dr. Ferdinando Fiore, Italian Trade Commissioner, Italian Trade Commission and Mr. Oliver Parche, the Deputy Delegate of German Industry and Commerce were also present on the panel, as representatives of the international line up of exhibitors who will attend the event.

The Big 5 PMV will also feature a series of seminars and interactive workshops providing trade professionals with an educational and informative platform to share best practice and learn about the latest developments in the region. Other sessions will cover Health and Safety, Specialist Construction Techniques and Environmental issues.

The value of the new event is highlighted by rising demand for construction related machinery, equipment and vehicles in the UAE, which alone has approximately US$300 billion worth of active projects using about 30,000, or 24%, of the world's construction cranes.

The Big 5 PMV has the support of key international organisations including UBIFRANCE (French Foreign Trade Council), Builders’ Association of India and the UK’s Construction Products Association.
