With an eye on increasing trade with the countries of the Middle East, Turkey will have its strongest ever presence at this year’s Big 5 exhibition which takes place from November 25-29 at Dubai International Exhibition Centre.

“78 leading Turkish companies are travelling to Dubai for The Big 5, which we believe will stimulate even greater business between Turkey, the UAE and other Gulf countries,” said Pinar Ozpak of IGEME (The Export Promotion Centre of Turkey). “We recognise the vast potential of the Middle East market and the important role that The Big 5 plays in the regional construction industry. The two separate Turkish pavilions at this year’s show will cover a total area of 1,395 sqm.”

Among the Turkish companies taking part at The Big 5 2007 is Civitas, a first time exhibitor this year. “The main reason for us to attend the show is that it is very well known around the world and thus essential for our sector,” said Banu Çakiroglu of Civitas. “The Middle East Market is important for Turkey and especially for our company. Our main objective for 2007-8 is to generate business in the Middle East Countries, especially with Dubai, Qatar, etc.”

Civitas, established in 1976, will display a full range of its products, covering bolts, nuts and washers, screws, anchors, clamps, support and expansion assemblies, anchorages, fitting elements and accessories used with clamps and expansion assemblies. With a strong customer-oriented philosophy, Civtas is today one of the most dependable brands in both the domestic and international market.

“Currently, we don’t have a local sales agent, so another reason for our participation at The Big 5 is to generate and evaluate requests from parties interested in representing us in the region,” added Çakiroglu.

Civtas produces in full compliance with TSE, DIN, EN, ISO, ANSI and IFI World Standards, and the company meets the specific needs and wants of its customers, as well as their technical requirements.

Oscar, another Turkish exhibitor at this year’s show, offers a wide range of power trowels of all types and sizes - in recent years, power trowels have become a very specialised and important part of the company’s operation, and a lot of product development has taken place - driven by input from concrete contractors all over the world, an international team of design specialists has been working to develop products that increase the productivity of concrete finishers while maintaining cost effectiveness. What is acceptable in terms of product performance and features in one part of the world may not be acceptable or usable in another, and as a result Oscar has developed the world’s most comprehensive line and feature driven product range.

With over 33 years of valuable industry experience, Oscar offers a wide range of products for the construction sector, and at The Big 5 will also show its new meco screed; asphalt, concrete and joint cutting machines; vibrating plate compactors for soil and ground preparation and scarifier for surface preparation.

“Major products to be exhibited by Turkish companies at The Big 5 2007 include everything from marble, travertine and limestone tiles and slabs to kitchen furniture and utensils,” said Bernard Walsh, Managing Director of dmg world media Dubai, the organisers of the event. “The breadth of product types is immense and shows the size and scale of Turkey’s involvement in the global construction industry.”

Other Turkish companies at The Big 5 will display products including ceramic sanitary ware, saunas, doors and windows; plastic profiles, pipes and fittings; plastic and aluminium processing machines; plastic pipe welding and cutting machines; cutting and bending machines for reinforcing bars; industrial storage systems; wires, mesh wires and fences; forged iron accessories; iron manhole covers; steel angles, rounds and bars; bolts and anchors; water tanks; pressure tanks; closed expansion vessels; various types of pumps; valves, industrial coolers; flexible ventilation ducts; flexible hoses; water treatment plants; concrete batching plants and concrete block production machines; aerated concrete blocks; concrete and aggregate testing equipment; plate compactors; asphalt cutting machines; steel constructions; prefabricated buildings; roofing materials; rubber gaskets and seals; electric hand tools; paint brushes and electronic security systems.

“Throughout its long and highly successful history, The Big 5 has a proven track record in generating real business for exhibitors,” said Walsh. “As we get ready for what will once again be the biggest ever Big 5, plus the introduction of the Big 5 PMV at Airport Expo Dubai which focuses on plant, machinery, construction vehicles and equipment, there’s a real sense of anticipation that some truly major deals will be made and announced during the show.”
