FJTCO to cool the world's largest shopping mall - the Dubai Mall.

Faisal Jassim Trading Co (FJTCO) is proud to he associated with the development of the Burj Dubai District, where the company has supplied 206 Eurovent Certified Euroclima air handling units model ZHK, treating a total air volume of 7,812,131 m3/hr. The units varied from 76,000 m3/hr to 2,000 m3/hr in size. The air handling units are 50mm double skin construction with fibre glass insulation, fitted with ARI certified coil, Eurovent certified energy recovery heat wheels, backward curved fans and stainless steel drain pans.
An integral part of the mall is the Aquarium - 50 metres long and forming a centrepiece of the mall, the aquarium will be flanked by two glass multi level tunnels through which visitors will view. close-up, as if sharing the seas, sharks, rays and any number of other dazzlingly exotic marine fauna - from starfish to coral and colourful reef fish and their larger cousins like groupers.
Since corrosion was a big concern in this area, Euroclima have provided special air handling units of full stainless steel construction including stainless steel fans, corrosion protected coils, and stainless steel drain pans.
The chilled water will be fed thru a near-by 38,080 TR district cooling plant. Chilled water will he pumped in the mall using our Bell & Gossett HS (pumps with cast iron volute and Bronze impeller construction. FJTCO supplied chilled water pumps and condenser pumps with capacity up to 2000 m3
FJTCO has also supplied and installed 12 GEA Polacel cooling towers, which will be used to reject the heat of the water cooled chillers and Glycol chillers. The FJTCO's team has undertaken the total supply, erection and commissioning of those units, which have a total water flow of 114,240 GPM.
The cooling towers are fitted with special 8m diameter I Howden fans weighing 1,200 kg each on top of the Gear Box from Brook Hansen. We are meeting 70 dba at 1m from discharge, minimizing the noise nuisance to the adjacent building. 160 kw ABB motors are fitted for each cooling tower with ABB variable frequency drives to match the fan speed to the plant load.
The cooling towers are of FRP envelope with stainless steel structure sitting on concrete basin holding a total capacity of water of 1,400 m3. The fills are PVC construction with a flute size of 19mm for non clogging operation. FJTCO's team of 25 technicians took 2 month to complete the erection of these towers to the complete satisfaction of the consultant and the client's engineers.
In a recent press release Ibrahim Al Hashemi, of EMAAR said: "The aquarium will be an integral part of The Dubai Mall's diverse entertainment portfolio... the aquarium will allow visitors to experience the exotic wonders of aquatic life first-hand through breathtaking views and a choice of leisure and dining activities: It means that shopping has become a major part of the integrated lifestyle cum entertainment experience that is life in modern Dubai."
There's an educational element too and the aquarium will include a state of-the-art discovery centre, so both children and adults can enhance their knowledge of the aquatic world through a selection of books, audio-visual presentations and exhibits.
The Burj Dubai tower is already the world's tallest building and it's not even finished yet; Dubai Mall will be the world's largest shopping mall; Downtown Dubai is expected to surpass Manhattan as the world's premier city address before long. The Dubai Aquarium - vast, entertaining, an engineering marvel - will add immeasurably to Dubai's ability to boast of its achievements.
