The Office Exhibition, the region’s premier office furniture, interiors and design event, opened its doors for the 2008 edition today, and the response was nothing short of overwhelming. The much-anticipated three day exhibition, which will run until the 6th of February, was declared open in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Hanyf Hassan Minister of Education at the Dubai International Exhibition & Convention Centre today.

Over 250 exhibitors from across the region are present at the three day extravaganza, which once again features the most influential product showcase for specifiers, buyers and trade visitors in the Middle East. National pavilions from Germany, the UK, the USA, Italy, Spain, Turkey, and Cyprus, as well as independent international and local suppliers vied for attention at the venue, setting the tone for a much larger footfall over the coming days.

Building on the progress made over the last six years, the 2008 event features some tailor-made events that have enhanced the scope and appeal of the show. The Association of Professional Interior Designers will stage a Business By Design workshop with Fred Berns, the renowned US business consultant and public speaker, who is one of the biggest names in the interior design business.

Another highlight of the show is the Workplace Freedom Seminars. Eames Demetrios, Grandson of Charles Eames, one of the most iconic designers of the 20th Century and a line-up of renowned international specialists will take centre stage at the Seminars. The seminars are free to attend, and showcase how one’s office space can be used to make a powerful statement about the company’s business, culture and success.

The exhibition also has one eye on the future of office design in the region. The “Inspire Us” challenge, put forth by Frezza SpA and The Total Office to architectural and design students in the UAE. Frezza will give the winning students a once-in-a-lifetime tour of the Frezza facility in Venice, Italy to meet their world class designers. “A lot of strategic thought has gone into planning the events at this year’s exhibition” said Ms. Paula Al Chami, Director of Office Exhibition 2008.

“As the organisers, we have seen this event grow in size and stature over the years, and are overwhelmed by the response to this year’s show. The exhibitors, the media and the visitors have all had a positive word to say, and that is most satisfying” she added. The show dates for this year’s event were pre-poned to accommodate the needs of exhibitors and their clients and coincides with the start of the annual tender process and of the marketing campaigns of international manufacturers.

The successful opening day will culminate with “O” Celebrates, another first at this year’s event. This VIP gathering will give the industry’s biggest names a rare opportunity to relax, mingle and enjoy the successful part they have played in the rise of this industry. All in all, the opening day of Office Exhibition 2008 exceeded expectations, and looks all set to get better over the coming days.
