Jotun Paints, one of the world’s leading producers and suppliers of paints and coatings, has announced that it is currently showcasing its industry leading ‘Fenomastic Emulsion’ and ‘Jotashield Thermo’ brands at the ‘Urban Waterfronts 2008’ conference running from November 16 to 18, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency in Dubai, UAE.

The products reflect Jotun’s strong support for the eco-construction or ‘green building’ concept spreading across the UAE. The leading manufacturer assists developers in meeting Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards and attaining maximum LEED credits through its eco-friendly interior and exterior paint range.

Fenomastic Emulsion is a fine acrylic copolymer based emulsion with low VOC levels that contributes positively to healthy indoor air quality. Due to its high durability and superior washability, Fenomastic Emulsion has excellent flow and coverage, therefore giving a smooth surface.

Both paints have low volatile organic compound content, thus making them desirable for sustainable site development. They also help meet the requirements of the LEED certification for new construction and major renovations to pass Green Building Rating Standards.

“Waterfront developments have grown enormously in terms of project quantity and scope. Conservative estimates for the global market value are pegged at more than USD 500 billion worth of projects over the next five years, and each project needs to consider the unique living and working conditions it sustains. Jotun’s three decades of extensive Middle Eastern experience perfectly positions it to meet the unique needs of such developments. Our company has created a variety of conventional and specialized paints and coatings that incorporate the latest technological developments and have minimum environmental impact,” said Eirik Kristensen, Regional Marketing Manager (Middle East), Jotun Paints.

Jotashield Thermo is the only paint classified as an insulator. Its solar reflective system is specially formulated to provide thermal insulation and anti-carbonation properties, which when applied to a villa or tower building will result in superior heat deflection and reduced interior temperature and cooling costs. These properties help the villa or building to be energy efficient.

‘Urban Waterfronts 2008’ promotes the creation of livable waterfront cities through strategic plans that emphasize responsible resource use. Its goal is to promote the leveraging of sustainable community development initiatives, efficient transport systems, and effective city branding to maximize the competitiveness of waterfront cities.

“Jotun continues to revolutionize eco-friendly manufacturing processes by unveiling new and improved technologies and tools for materials handling. We continue to be an active industry proponent of environmental protection through initiatives such as our recycling program. Our level of commitment to the highest quality and environmental standards will naturally translate to our participation in the world’s foremost waterfront developments,” concluded Kristensen.

Throughout the world, cities are reconnecting with their waterfronts, thus attracting interest in sustainable design, development and implementation among developers and residents. Jotun has invested around USD 25 million into research and development to ensure that their products are of the highest quality and have minimal environmental impact.

It is one of the founding companies and in fact the only paint company included in the Emirates Green Building Council. Jotun has been instrumental in raising the benchmark in environmentally friendly production techniques and products throughout the paint manufacturing industry. The company aims to influence other organizations to adopt eco-friendly approaches to their businesses as well.
