Dubai to host the Façade Design and Engineering 2009 Summit.

Chris Macey, Chairman of Society of Façade Engineering and Group Managing Director at Wintech will chair the Façades Design and Engineering 2009 Summit in Dubai from 23-24 March 2009 at the Al Manzil Hotel, Burj Dubai.

The event has been developed by the International Quality & Productivity Center (IQPC) who are global providers of tailored, industry driven conferences. This conference will address how iconic façades may be designed which are both highly sustainable and functional.

Macey will deliver the keynote speech, focusing on creating low energy buildings with effective façade design and reduced envelope air permeability.

This event will feature over 20 high profile speakers from the world’s leading architecture and façade engineering companies, including Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, Aldar Properties, WS Atkins and Partners Overseas, Norr Group, Hyder Consulting, Zaha Hadid, RMJM, Centre for Window and Cladding Technology, Woods Bagot, Wintech, KPF and many more.

The event has been developed by the International Quality & Productivity Center (IQPC) who are global providers of tailored, industry driven conferences. This conference will address how iconic façades may be designed which are both highly sustainable and functional.

Topics under discussion will encompass two main areas: building greener façades and innovations and technology in façade building. It will also feature exclusive case studies about the Masdar Headquarters, ADIA Headquarters, DIFC Lighthouse, The Okhta Tower, Villamar Harbour, Opus Office Tower and The Pad, Cybertecture Egg and Technosphere.

There will also be two master classes before and after the event. Dr. Stephen Ledbetter, Director, Centre for Window and Cladding Technology will lead the first full-day master class on performance specification of building envelopes. Dr. Stephen has over twenty years of experience in building envelopes of all types. He is the director of the industry-funded Centre for Window and Cladding Technology, supported by over 300 companies.

The second full-day master class will focus on integrating early modeling within the design stage. This will be lead by Kevin Leahy, Board Director, Broadway Malyan and Ian Walker, Head of Environmental Engineering, Broadway Malyan. Kevin has many years of experience over a large range of projects. He has worked extensively with Ian and with many authorities during the formation period of new energy policies such as the UK revised Part L building regulations. Ian works closely with the architectural teams and external consultants to optimise, test and offer design solutions from an energy point of view.
