BASF Exhibits Underground Construction Technology at Arabian Tunnelling Conference and Exhibition

BASF, a global leader in sustainable construction chemicals, showcased its innovative products for Underground Construction (UGC) at the 3rd Arabian Tunnelling Conference and Exhibition in Dubai.

As a main sponsor for the event, BASF showcased cutting-edge technologies from its Master Builders Solutions portfolio, specifically catering to the regional tunnelling industry. The highlights included a sprayed concrete equipment simulator, which contributes to efficiency and increased safety when creating state-of-the-art, monolithic and composite structures. The company also displayed its comprehensive range of solutions for TBM (Tunnel Boring Machines), waterproofing systems and injection system products.

As a member of the conference steering committee and session chairperson during the conference, Nick Chittenden, Regional Manager for BASF Underground Construction Middle East, contributed to a panel discussion on tunnelling with industry specialists. He also participated at the Young Engineers Forum, to introduce the tunnelling industry to the stakeholders of the future.

Discussing BASF’s value-add to the regional underground construction market, Chittenden said: “The needs of tunnelling and mining engineers, owners and contractors are at the center of our solutions. With our local experts and our globally enriched R&D support teams, we are able to customize for our regional customer as well as the climatic and environmental conditions. In order to provide durable and quality solutions, we utilize our customer feedback in order to innovate and improve, while incorporating new findings into our constantly evolving technology.”

BASF is contributing 17 of 20 Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) currently being used in the Doha Metro project. The company also provides strong logistics operations and field support to complement its offerings. BASF’s portfolio of underground construction solutions have also been used in the Shis Khorfakkan and Diftah Shis road projects in the UAE.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, the Arabian Tunnelling Conference and Exhibition ran from the 23 - 25 November. The three-day event built around the theme of ‘Innovative Underground Infrastructure - Challenges and Opportunities’ brought together tunnelling professionals involved in design, management and maintenance of underground infrastructure from numerous countries.
