FM EXPO, which is the largest exhibition for the facilities management industry in the Middle East, will be double in size with twice as much exhibitor floor space compared with 2010, and two new events being added to the agenda; the Sustainable Facilities Expo and the World FM Congress 2011, running from 17-19 May 2011 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Such dramatic expansion is indicative of an industry, which according to organisers, dmg :: events, has grown at a rate of 17% in the last three years with annual revenues in the Middle East forecast to reach $8 billion by 2013.

Much of that growth will be generated by the growing demand for energy efficient solutions and the imminent introduction of federal green building codes. As such the Sustainable Facilities Expo has been launched to run alongside FM EXPO. The exhibition is the region’s first green show of its kind and is launched in partnership with Dubai Municipality and the Environmental Center for Arab Towns to help promote energy efficiency in building management.

Another exciting development for FM EXPO 2011 is the inaugural World FM Congress. This two-day congress has been organised with the support of 11 facility management associations from across the globe, subsequently creating a forum for FM clients and service providers to share international best practice and discuss the key challenges facing the industry. Speakers from around the world represent major facilities such as NASA Headquarters, the Sydney Opera House, Microsoft, World Trade Center Amsterdam and Atlantis Hotel.

FM EXPO will also be hosting IFMA, the International Facilities Management Association in their first ever visit to the Middle East. They will run a two-day certified training course on project management in facilities management, which is one of the four courses which make up the FMP Credential. In addition, and with a more local view, half day workshops on service level agreements and energy management will be run by Mick Dalton, Managing Director of Musanadah FM.

Event Director of FM EXPO, David Wilson said: “The events size this year is indicative of the growing importance of facilities management in the Middle East. Speaking with exhibitors and sponsors as I do, it is becoming clear that there is a move towards FM being considered earlier in the consultation process of new developments and discussed at board level. Indeed, those in executive management are now becoming aware of the critical role FM provides, both in terms of reducing energy costs and allowing organisations to focus on their core business. But with such growth must come better standards and processes and that is why we are increasing our global reach to focus on international best practice case studies at the World FM Congress and training by the world renowned IFMA.”.

So with all that is happening, we hope FM EXPO will be an event indispensable for the industry, whereby exhibitors are showcasing the latest technology and services, and global speakers are teaching best practice. ”

Highlighting the strength and competition in the market, FM EXPO has also attracted sponsorship from leading organisations such as Etisalat FM, Emrill, EMCO, EMCOR, Hestia-FM, MAB and Al Shirawi.

It is now in its sixth year and will be co-located with The Office Exhibition and The Hotel Show giving visitors even more to see and consider in the management of their facility.
