GEZE commits itself to alternative sources of energy. At the company's headquarters in Leonberg and at GEZE's Sonderkonstruktionen subsidiary at Boxberg-Schweigern in the Main-Tauber district, all the buildings and systems are supplied exclusively with 100% emission-free, renewably generated electricity from hydro-electric power stations. The agreement with the energy supplier EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg is valid until the end of 2015.

"Sustainability is one of our guiding principles. We consistently strive to use resources in a responsible manner in order to maintain a healthy environment for future generations. The switch to green electricity by a company which has capital-intensive production plants helps to mitigate climate change and to lessen the environmental footprint of our products, and it consequently also improves market opportunities for them in the "green building market", says CEO, Brigitte Vöster-Alber.

From product development and production to sales, maintenance and after-sales service, GEZE operates according to sustainability standards. The switch to green electricity by GEZE is therefore part of its constant task of taking account of environmental criteria in all the company's activities. GEZE's environmental management system has been certified in accordance with the globally valid ISO 14001 standard. The company's own environmental protection officer constantly provides new solutions for reducing energy consumption. This is achieved, for example, with the aid of modern lighting control systems or energy-efficient production and conveying systems.

In addition, GEZE's tried and tested TS 4000 and TS 5000 series of door closers have been awarded the EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) sustainability certificate, a globally recognised eco-label. EPDs can be used in connection with the sustainability certification of buildings – something that is becoming increasingly important – for example through the BREEAM and LEED international assessment systems, or the systems operated by the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) or the Federal Ministry of Construction.

Door closers are sustainable simply by virtue of their function, as they avoid doors being left open unintentionally, they keep cold air out, and they help to save energy used for heating. Equally, automatic door systems have energy-saving potential due to their reliable closing. "Intelligent" window drives for natural ventilation, together with controls and sensors open and close windows in a controlled manner. They meet the standards for minimising energy consumption which apply in the EU, and which are laid down in the Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV) in Germany. Numerous buildings in Germany that have been awarded the "DGNB certificate" are fitted with GEZE door and window technology.
