INTERMAT, the largest exhibition in France and the second largest construction sector exhibition worldwide, has selected Abu Dhabi as its home city in the Middle East. INTERMAT has existed for 25 years and takes place every three years in Paris. Today the French exhibition enjoys 1,500 exhibitors from 48 countries and 200,000 visitors of whom 45% are international.

Maryvonne Lanoë, INTERMAT Exhibition Manager, said: “Abu Dhabi is the perfect choice to host the Middle East edition of INTERMAT. The city is expanding rapidly and the infrastructure projects and developments here are truly world class. This provides the perfect backdrop for the world’s construction industry to showcase their services and products.”

The very first INTERMAT Middle East will take place from 28 to 30 March 2011, in the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) centre in Abu Dhabi and will be co-located with the Arabian Construction Week.

Creating INTERMAT Middle East, a meeting place for international equipment and techniques suppliers with construction companies, was a logical step in view of the Middle Eastern countries’ development. INTERMAT Middle East will take advantage of the Arabian Construction Week’s track record of attracting high quality visitors and delegates and its proposition which is complementary to that of INTERMAT, to draw numerous visitors from the Middle East, Africa, the Gulf, Iran and the countries bordering the Black and Caspian Seas.

In developing a trade event for the United Arab Emirates, Comexposium and its partners will give professionals from across the world’s road and urban infrastructure and interurban transport industries the opportunity to penetrate the MENA markets, whose major project portfolio totals US$3 Trillion. In 2010, the United Arab Emirates will form the largest market in the region with 1,600 projects underway in construction, non-residential buildings, civil engineering/infrastructures and tourism.

INTERMAT is joining forces with MECOM Forums a Clarion Events Partner, an international company located in the United Arab Emirates, to launch “INTERMAT Middle East” in 2011.

Christopher Hudson, Managing Director, Mecom Forums - a Clarion Events Partner, said: “Our new partnership with INTERMAT now ensures that we are providing a totally unique exhibition platform within the Middle East. Four dedicated trade shows and four international summits co-located and running at the same time will ensure that we are providing the first of its kind platform for construction professionals in the Middle East enabling the whole industry to build better, faster and more cost effectively.”

The Arabian Construction Week consists of three dedicated trade shows, Green Building Middle East for sustainable construction solutions, Future Build Middle East for Innovative construction products and Civil Engineering Middle East. In addition the Arabian Construction Week also hosts four international summits including Building Smart which addresses interoperability delivered by building information modelling processes, The Green Building Summit, the Climate Control Summit in association with ASHRAE and the Infrastructure Summit.
