HE Saeed Mohamed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has invited the general public, UAE nationals, and visitors to attend the 19th edition of the Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX), the largest exhibition of its kind in the region. The event will be held under the umbrella of the 4th session of Green Week, under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of DEWA.

DEWA invites public to participate in activities of WETEX

WETEX 2017 will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from 23 to 25 October 2017. Covering an area of over 70,000 square metres, the event will play host to 2,000 exhibitors from 50 different countries. This year’s theme is ‘At the forefront of sustainability,’ and coincides with the 2nd Dubai Solar Show and the 4th World Green Economy Summit. At this year’s World Green Economy Summit, at least 60 speakers from all over the world will focus on key topics like Smart Cities, Green Economy, Innovation, and Sustainable Development.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, Founder and Chairman of WETEX said: “In line with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to support the comprehensive and sustainable development of Dubai and the UAE, we at DEWA are eager to engage the public in promoting a culture of sustainability, preserving the environment, protecting natural resources, adopt green technologies and increase reliance on clean energy. WETEX 2017 plays a vital role in supporting the efforts of the leadership of Dubai and the UAE on the global green economy and sustainable development map. This event is a comprehensive, integrated and specialised global exhibition in the areas of energy production and rationalisation, renewable energy, desalination, sustainability, technology and green development. Since its launch, the exhibition has established itself as the largest of its kind in the world. This year, we are expecting a larger audience turnout, especially after our success last year, with great participation from the public, sponsors, exhibitors and participants from all over the world.”

Al Tayer added: "Through this important event, we are seeking to educate and involve the public in our efforts to implement the long term national initiative launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to build a green economy in the UAE under the theme ‘Green economy for sustainable development,’ and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to make Dubai a world centre for clean energy and green economy, by providing 7% of Dubai's energy from clean energy sources by 2020. This target will increase to 25% by 2030; and 75% by 2050, in addition to the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, that aims to cut energy consumption by 30% by 2030.

The show is an ideal platform for organisations operating in the fields of energy, renewable energy, water, environment, oil and gas to display their technologies, projects, green products and solutions. It also serves as a forum for decision makers, investors, buyers, and enthusiasts from all around the world to gain insight into the leading projects in renewable and clean energy in the region and the world”.

Al Tayer explained that the fourth session of the Green Week also includes events designed to raise community awareness and inspire individuals to be more responsible towards the environment—highlighting the urgent need to replace irrational consumption habits; follow a sustainable lifestyle and to promote awareness among new generations like school and university students and motivate them to invent new solutions towards a green economy. Events include a variety of lectures about sustainability, promoting efficient consumption, and many other environmental issues, plus interactive workshops with the public. Green Week also includes a Green Corner for school and university students to be innovators, inventors and creators and display their green and sustainable projects.

“The 2nd edition of the Dubai Solar Show, will also take place during WETEX in a specialised area of 14,000 square metres, as a platform for both the public and private sectors to make deals, build partnerships, review the latest solar energy technologies, and current and future projects in the region. It will also enable participants to learn about market needs and the available opportunities in the solar energy projects and programmes,” added Al Tayer.

"Through its Green platforms, we promote sustainability in all environmental, economic and social aspects, and increase reliance on clean energy sources, with Shams Dubai to support the Dubai Smart Initiative, to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city globally. Shams Dubai encourages building owners to install solar panels on their rooftops to produce electricity, linked to our grid contributing to greater reliance on clean energy, and involving the public in reducing the carbon footprint in Dubai. So far, DEWA has been able to successfully link 453 networks on the roofs of buildings in Dubai, including commercial and residential buildings, with a total capacity of up to about 18.7 MW. We are working to double the number in the future reaching all Dubai buildings by 2030," added Al Tayer.

"Students and visitors will be briefed on solar energy projects led by Dubai and the UAE, notably the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is implemented by DEWA and is one of the world's largest solar energy projects, based on the independent power producer (IPP). The solar park has a total planned capacity of 1,000 MW by 2020, and 5,000 MW by 2030 with a total investment of AED 50 billion”.

“The exhibition is organised in conjunction with both the Dubai Solar Show and the World Green Energy Summit, which provides exhibitors and participants with the opportunity to meet officials and decision makers from the world. We encourage all participants to take full advantage of the events agenda, including seminars, workshops, specialised activities and lectures by expert and specialists from all around the world,” concluded Al Tayer.
