His Excellency Dr. Nasser Saidi, Chairman of the Clean Energy Business Council (CEBC), has confirmed his attendance at the third edition of The Global Solar Leaders Summit which will be held on the 27 November 2017 at The Dubai World Trade Centre.

Leading the Council's mission to decarbonize MENA economies, Dr. Saidi will discuss how governments can create a regulatory framework fit for the GCC energy diversification agenda. Further than this, the Policy and Regulation Panel will look deeper into the funding of a solar market transformation, arguing the role of competitive auctions in the Middle East electricity market.

“The UAE has always been a pioneering nation that has strived to reshape and define its future and as it transitions its own economy from oil into knowledge and investments it can become the clean energy finance capital of the world by developing the ecosystem to finance clean energy and technology," said Dr. Saidi.

A recent study by the Massachutts Institute of Technology warned of regional catastrophe and ‘heatwaves beyond the limit of human survival’ in the GCC by 2070 should global warming continue unabated. “Managing climate change is the central challenge facing humanity today. There is no trade-off between investments required for a low-carbon economy and economic growth.”

Dr. Saidi continued “Decarbonisation is a major investment opportunity for generations to come and ‘climate’ must be integrated into economic decision-making processes at the levels of government, society and businesses. This means a major shift by policymakers and business leaders in their strategic outlook. With pledged renewable energy targets of more than 100GW for the GCC region by 2030, it is connecting these parallel worlds of regional policy, finance and business that the Global Solar Leaders Summit will facilitate,” he said.

“Now, more than ever the economic, financial and political communities must join the dots to successfully scale up the pace of renewable energy deployment.”

It will ensure ample opportunity for one-on-one meetings and networking, alongside thought-provoking discussions to explore and nurture the new partnerships and opportunities arising between businesses in the MENA region.

Other keynote speakers at the event include His Excellency Dr. Rashid Alleem, Chairman of Sharjah Water and Electricity Authority, CEO of Etihad ESCO Ali Mohammed Al Jassim, and Browning Rockwell, Founding and Executive Director of SASIA & Solar GCC Alliance.
