Intertek, a leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, will be exhibiting at one of the world’s leading security exhibitions, Intersec. The exhibition is taking place 18th – 20th January, 2015 in Dubai. The three-day event showcases technical solutions for commercial and domestic security, fire & rescue, safety & health and homeland security & policing.

Intertek, which focuses on quality and safety in a variety of industries, will be discussing its testing, assessment and certification capabilities of electrical fire and security products to help people stay safe and trust in the fire and safety products that protect their homes and places of work. The company will also be showing how they can support local manufacturers to meet international product requirements for exports.

Intertek provides manufacturers in a variety of sectors with independent safety, performance, energy efficiency and materials assessments, as well as checks for electro-magnetic compatibility. It assures conformity through its assessment programmes based on International Standards that utilise testing, site inspections and products surveillance, for additional user confidence.

Domestic fire and security equipment is part of the growing consumer electronics area. In the UAE, the consumer electronics market is expected to reach AED16 billion by next year. According to Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), the UAE has seen 43 percent growth in the number of companies in the Electronics and IT sector in the last 5 years growing from 846 in 2009 to 1248 today. The sector has generated trade worth USD 28.44 billion in 2013, up 3 percent from its trade in 2012.

As international and local regulations continuously evolve, Intertek helps companies adhere to the requisite regulatory and legal compliance, identify where hazards are likely to occur, determine where corrective actions should be taken, and continue monitoring global supply chain for safety, quality and performance compliance.

Intertek also provides operational management services and quality assurance support for existing testing and certification resources, whilst underpinning the establishment of new testing capabilities for an extended range of products. The company has established centers of excellence and laboratories in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Fujeirah, covering major sectors such as food and water, building materials, electrical appliances and, oil and gas.

Intertek currently operates 19 laboratories in the region, of which seven are based in the UAE. It has grown its employee base in the Emirates by 180% since 2011 with highly qualified technical experts from the United Kingdom, the United States of America, from 508 people back then to over 1400 people today.
