Ministry of Public Works and Department of Municipal Affairs for Abu Dhabi to Launch “Investment and Innovation in Construction Summit”

The Ministry of Public Works (MOPW) and the Department of Municipal Affairs in Abu Dhabi (DMA) will launch the first “Investment and Innovation in Construction Summit” (IICS) at the INTERMAT Middle East exhibition specialized in construction machinery and equipment.

The two-day summit that will be held from 8 – 9 October 2012, will focus on the efforts and investments by both public and private sectors to enhance local development and quality of living.

INTERMAT Middle East which will be held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Federal Minister of Public Works from 8 – 10 October 2012 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, attracts a large number of companies and exhibitors showcasing the most advanced building and construction equipments, machineries & building tools, and will feature high-level executives and experts from both the MOPW and DMA to highlight the importance and requirements of investing in public works and the opportunities involved in further enriching the country.

His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan is confirmed to inaugurate the second annual INTERMAT Middle East and is scheduled to provide opening remarks at the first day of the summit, followed by the chairman’s address by His Excellency Majed Ali Al Mansouri, Chairman of the Department of Municipal Affairs. Both Officials will provide key insights to developers, contractors and anyone involved in the construction industry with the Emirate’s vision and requirements to build a sustainable economy by 2030.

Maryvonne Lanoe, Intermat Exhibition Director, said: “The MOPW and DMA have both shown a significant amount of support for INTERMAT Middle East. The Investment and Innovation in Construction Summit scheduled to take place will focus on a variety of topics that will include: Investments, Asset Management, Regulations, Design, Materials, Quality Assurance, Innovation and Fire Safety. Furthermore, with the list of speakers confirmed to participate at these conferences, attendees will have the unique opportunity to meet and discuss potential projects with the people directly responsible for creating the 2030 vision.”

Distinguished speakers will provide in-depth presentations and discussions on Public Private Partnerships as well embedding sustainability into Abu Dhabi’s new building codes. They will also discuss plans for asset class development in a municipal system, building products conformity system in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, contractor & consultant classification, the Khalifa Fund, government healthcare projects, the role of the building code in disaster management and much more during the two-day summit.

Asdam Mohammed Al-Ghazawy, Sr. Project Manager for the MOPW; Matthew Plumbridge, Environmental & Sustainability Planning Consultant for the DMA; Eng. Nicholas Wellwood, Integrated Infrastructure Planning Advisor for the DMA; Salem Al Qassimi, Senior Specialist – Product Conformity for Abu Dhabi Quality Conformity Council UAE, Eng. Yousuf Abdulla Ali Abdulla, Deputy Director of Southern Zone, Ministry of Public Works, UAE amongst others.
