Tour & Andersson’s hydronic balancing expertise has been implemented in the extension works of Alexandria City Centre Mall in Egypt. The building, which has almost doubled in size as a result of the works, required an HVAC system that would be able to cope with the intensive cooling demands expected due to its geographical location.

Providing a series of ¾” to 5” Pressure Independent Control Valves (PICVs) for the pump’s hookup 256 valve, TA was able to create a system that would sufficiently cool the building during the extremely hot summer months, when external temperatures can be as high as 40°C, using a controlled and balanced chilled water system to serve the new building.

With Alexandria City Centre Mall attracting around 12 million visitors per year, the 30,000m2 extension was much overdue. As such, the new building needed an HVAC solution that would be able to cool the building to a comfortable level without increasing running costs. As the leaders in hydronic balancing techniques, Tour & Andersson was a natural fit, delivering a system that would be able to meet the demands put upon it, without hindrance to its functionality.

Due to the high profile nature of the project, costing around $69 million, Tour & Andersson worked with its local representative in Egypt Value Tech Company alongside consultants MED (Mechanical Engineering Design) and contractors, Delta Construction Company, to design and install a bespoke HVAC system that would be able to cool the building even under extremes of external temperature.

Colin Bridges from Tour & Andersson, commented, “Due to the location and scale of the project, we needed to deliver a system that would be able to cope with the pressures faced as a result of the geographical climate. As a leading global hydronic balancing solutions provider, we created a system that would serve the entire extension, cooling the building using a series of PICVs to control and balance the chilled water system installed. Although compared to alternative providers, our solution turned out to be the most costly, the price was accepted due to the premium quality delivered by TA, providing peace of mind that the system would continue to work effectively long after it was initially installed.”
