Initially built in 1889, the 8th Avenue Reservoir is the largest and oldest of the city's 37 reservoirs, supplying clean drinking water. Bowen Engineering chose Xypex Admix C-500 NF for its proven, durable, long-lasting waterproofing performance as part of a comprehensive rehabilitation project, including tank-in-a-tank construction, vault improvements, and overall reservoir upgrades.
This Xypex C-500 NF admixture was added to all reservoir walls, forming a non- soluble crystalline structure during batching. The crystalline technology effectively seals concrete from within, blocking water penetration and increasing the long-term durability and sustainability of the reservoir's infrastructure.
By integrating Xypex Admix C-500 NF, Bowen Engineering achieved leak-free concrete without costly coatings or crack injection methods. Xypex Admix C 500 NF offered permanent waterproofing protection while improving resistance to aggressive chemical environments, such as chlorides and sulphates, and able to withstand extreme hydrostatic pressure.
Xypex Admix C-500 NF is NSF 61 certified, verifying its suitability for use in potable water applications. Its non-toxic nature further highlights its environmental responsibility, making it the product of choice by engineers for sensitive applications where sustainability and long-term performance are vital.
