InSinkErator, the world's largest manufacturer of food waste disposers and instant hot water dispensers for home and commercial use, has reaffirmed its support for the country’s continuing move to roll-out ‘green’ initiatives and efforts to achieve total sustainable development during the first official visit of the company’s International Vice President, Joe Ferrara.

Currently celebrating its 75th year anniversary, InSinkErator sponsored the November networking event of the Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC), an organization aimed at conserving the environment by strengthening and promoting green building practices in the UAE, recently at the Sheraton Hotel in the Mall of the Emirates. The evening’s program was highlighted by key networking opportunities with Ferrara leading a special panel session focusing on the theme, ‘Importance of effective waste management in the Middle East.’

Also present during the program were Habiba Al-Mar’ashi, Chairperson, EEG and President, UN Global Compact Network for GCC States; Martin Kelly, Group Manager, OHSE & Training, Habtoor Leighton Group and Iftikhar Hamdani, General Manager, Ramada Beach Hotel-Ajman. The event aimed at combining four key sectors of the UAE—construction (Habtoor Leighton Group), environment NGOs (EmiratesGBC), manufacturing (InSinkErator) and hospitality (Ramada). Ferrara gave a special talk and presentation on the significance of maintaining best practices and standards for food security and food waste disposal. He also presented a short animated film about the company’s current efforts to promote the importance of waste management.

“We would like to thank EmiratesGBC for allowing us to sponsor this month’s networking event, which has given us a strategic opportunity to increase awareness on the benefits and advantages to be gained from using world class fully efficient and environmentally friendly food waste disposal units,” said Ferrara. “Over the years, InSinkErator has demonstrated key commitment in the campaign to help preserve the environment—managing to become a major part of the solution with its development of products that widely promote the maintenance of a proper waste management system. Our aim is to particularly inform people on how to maintain both convenience and hygiene in their kitchens—from the ones used at home to the bigger kitchens located in commercial dining facilities. As such, we reaffirm our support for the EmiratesGBC’s vision of positioning the UAE as a global leader in ecological footprint reduction of the built environment.”

InSinkErator is one of the newest members of EmiratesGBC, joining the council in the promotion of sustainable environmental development in the UAE and the rest of the Middle East region. The council promotes and educates on key environmental topics, particularly green issues in the built environment. EmiratesGBC currently has more than 135 members in the UAE, represented by individuals interested and involved in Green Buildings in the UAE and the region. EmiratesGBC members have the opportunity to participate actively in programmes and initiatives aimed at promoting the green building concept. Additionally, members receive discounts on a number of programs such as those related to conferences, seminars, training and green building events.

“EmiratesGBC is grateful for InSinkErator’s continued support for our programs and initiatives. Being one of our newest members, InSinkErator is amongst the many companies and organizations that work hand in hand with EmiratesGBC to raise more awareness on ‘green’ initiatives and help in the implementation of programs designed to preserve the environment. We thank them for their sponsorship of this month’s networking event and look forward to working closely with them in future endeavors of the council,” concluded Habiba Al-Mar’ashi, Co-Founder of EmiratesGBC, Chairperson of EEG and President of UN Global Compact Network for GCC States.
