DEWALT is reaffirming its commitment to safer site working with the launch of its Perform & Protect™ system – The Science of Safety
A comprehensive line-up of professional construction power tools, attachments and accessories that meet strict criteria in one or more of the following core safety focused areas:
- VIBRATION - Minimum vibration, maximum productivity. Up to 50%* lower vibration with innovative AVC system.
- CONTROL - Unique and innovative torque control features such as CTC and UTC system for rotary hammers or E-clutch for drill and grinders. Maximum level of protection.
- DUST - Industry leading dust extraction solutions. Cleaner and safer working environment.
The system works by designating key performance indicators to each tool in the form of a Perform & Protect™ shield. The shield denotes a major contribution to safer working either through the technology employed (vibration and control) or the extraction efficiency of the product (dust).
Tools within the Perform & Protect™ system offer a number of significant advantages for the end user. Industry leading dust extraction solutions ensure that the potential for inhalation of harmful particles is reduced. Tri-axial level of vibration have been reduced by up to 50%*, thereby increasing usage time without sacrificing performance. Control has been enhanced with innovative torque control safety features preventing tool find up that could cause either tool damage or personal injury.
As part of its campaign to drive safer working, the company is also seeking to engage more actively with the wider construction community. It is establishing a LinkedIn Group to share views and opinions on how site safety can be improved and maintained.
Commenting on the launch of the Perform & Protect™, Nigel English, DEWALT EMEA training manager says; “The risks and hazards in construction are well documented, a situation that DEWALT is determined to address. We want to put Perform & Protect™ at the heart of an industry-wide campaign to reduce incidence of injury, promote best practices and contribute to longer-term health of workers without penalizing productivity.”

The technological advancements such as those present in the Perform & Protect™ system, are important but equally important is creating an environment where safety and correct tool usage are paramount.” he adds.
The Perform & Protect™ system comprises of over 50 products at time of launch such as pavement breakers, angle grinders, attachments and the new XLR SDS-MSX drill bit range with that number set to increase as new tools are introduced.
Then there is need for education and better practice is beyond doubt. The number and rate of industry on construction sites is significantly less than 20 years ago but the industry is still far riskier than others.
