FG Wilson (Engineering) FZE alongwith the Abu-Dhabi Channel partner ATECO (Al Dhafra Trading Enterprises Co) hosted a seminar on Electric Power Generation at Intercontinental Hotel Abu Dhabi on 26 November 2012. The event was graced by over 100 MEP Engineers and Managers from Prominent Consulting Organizations and End Users.
Mr. Ahmed Khalil Al Mureikhy, Chairman of ATECO and DELMA Group of companies welcomed the audience who were apprised on ATECO and FG Wilson activities and 24x7 HELPLINE 800 FG WILSON by Mr. Ranjan Maini, GM, ATECO.
Mr. Maini thanked the esteemed audience and dedicated the ATECO Silver Jubilee to them as many present gave them repeated business over this journey.
Mr. Naveen D’ Souza Vice President FG Wilson (Engineering) FZE presented the organization since 1991 and product offerings from 9 to 2500 KVA.
Mr. John Ward, Regional Sales Manager, FG Wilson (Engineering) Ltd, U.K a leading European manufacturer since 1966, stated that FG Wilson is a world class manufacturer of gensets and supplies thousands of gensets all over the world every year. FG Wilson (Engineering)FZE have supplied generators to many critical installations including Palaces, Airports, 5 star Hotels, theme parks, island projects and hospital to name a few.
This event was a platform for the attendees to have a close look at a 2500 KVA open set and a 500 KVA sound attenuated FG Wilson DG Sets that were on display. Their technical questions regarding product specification and features were answered. A service vehicle with tools and Spare Parts Counter completed the offering which was applauded by the consultants present.
The audience curiosity about quality differentiation between FG Wilson manufactured product with multi product assemblers was addressed in presentation by Mr. Andrew Walker Manager Product Support FG Wilson (Engineering) FZE . He explained the manufacturing and launch process emphasizing FG Wilson’s contribution in the design process and close working with Caterpillar and Perkins on joint developmental of Engines, Genset and Control system that required 36 to 42 months from concept to product acceptance.
The assembly opined that quality and reliability were grossly compromised by low value operators in local market and that consultants had a tough task against so called value engineering initiatives. They stated that assembled products with poorly engineered low quality components always have limited warranties and rely on warranty referral to Engine, control panel & Alternator manufacturers for respective products that is unacceptable.
An example from recent Hurricane Sandy in the US reveled that hospitals had to be evacuated as DG Set did not start. That is some serious trouble said one of the participants we, as consultants, better make sure we prequalify only the worthy and stick to it.
A case study on 12 MVA, 11KV diesel power station commissioned last year was presented by Mr. Derick Buckelo Director Projects and Applications FG Wilson (Engineering) FZE this followed many similar FGW power stations that are operational in the UAE and the Middle East for some years now.

The overwhelming majority gave seminar content top scores for its usefulness and appropriate level of content. Mr. Naveen D” Souza Vice president of FG Wilson FZE commented “This will certainly help us to increase our market reach and raise the standards and reliability of power by eliminating poorly engineered, cheap imitations from quality projects”
