Acknowledged as Being 'Living Building Challenge Red List Free'

Pittsburgh Corning FOAMGLAS cellular glass insulation has been named a certified Living Building Challenge Red List Free product. This certification is part of the ingredient transparency program administered by the International Living Future Institute’s Living Building Challenge.

The Living Building Challenge’s Declare program requires participating manufacturers to provide a material ingredients list, fostering transparency in the marketplace. Products that have been Declared “Red List Free” are eligible for use on Living Building Challenge projects.

The Red List is composed of 14 materials and chemicals, all of which have been deemed “worst in class” for their effects on human health and the environment. Such examples include mercury, lead, asbestos, HCFC’s and phthalates. FOAMGLAS insulation does not contain CFCs, HCFCs or any other hazardous materials or compounds.

FOAMGLAS Insulation Receives Global Recognition as a Sustainable Product

Marco Thomas Vincenz, Director at Pittsburgh Corning Middle East FOAMGLAS insulation, said the Company is thrilled to be associated with the Living Building Challenge. “Material transparency initiatives such as ILF’s Declare program are on the cutting edge of what was once simply called ‘green building’,” he said. “It’s no longer acceptable for manufacturers to claim they offer green building solutions if they are using hazardous chemicals and ingredients, which have been proven to cause negative health and environmental impacts.” He added, “We’re very pleased that FOAMGLAS insulation received this certification. In addition to being a reliable and performance proven product, FOAMGLAS insulation is sustainable and safe, protecting companies and their people worldwide.”

Throughout its history, Pittsburgh Corning has been dedicated to environmental responsibility. In today’s world, sustainability and building product’s health effects are at the forefront of everyone’s concerns when specifying insulation systems.

“FOAMGLAS insulation is made from natural materials including sand and recycled glass,” Vincenz said. “These raw materials are combined to ultimately give FOAMGLAS insulation its superior strength, moisture resistance and thermal performance. We are proud to officially Declare ourselves, ‘Red List Free’.”
